• College websites - get an overall feel, but the admissions page will usually lead you to the relevant information (see below).

• College Newspapers - online, or if you're touring a campus, pick up a copy. Get a sense of what is going on.
• If you're touring a campus, talk to students who are not tour guides - the guides will be great, but remember they work for the Office of Admissions - and may not be as candid as other students.
• Specific programs such as Questbridge or STARS - which serve students who are the first in their family to attend a college or university - this could be students who need significant financial aid/scholarships, rural areas, and many other areas and backgrounds.  

• Majors
• Experiential learning - internships, research opportunities, study abroad
• Outcomes - what are their alumni doing?
• Clubs/Organizations/Athletics

Questions to ask yourself:

• Do I want a sports culture (ex. big football games on Saturdays or March Madness tournament runs)?
• Can I find a club or organization that will give me a sense of home/community/support?

Get a sense of where you feel like you can be part of the community...because where you find that is likely where you will find your greatest amount of success.
