Purpose - Show your involvement, time invested, impact made, or influence on others.

Organization - follow the examples below, but the resume should be chronological.

**Guidelines - the resume does not necessarily follow the way you will fill out the Activity section of the application: **

Involvement - activity, years involved, weeks/year, hours/week.

• List the activity you care about the most first (list chronological activities for the resume).
• Be specific in your activity's name - ex. not just "baseball"
• Don't use school acronyms - spell the name of the club or activity out

Investment - how have you contributed? Did you help your school or family in a significant way? Include personal and collective achievements where appropriate.

• Think beyond traditional positions - if you contributed in some unique way, mention that.
• If you or a group accomplished something you are proud of, list that.
• Make note if the activity involved you being nominated or selected to participate.

Impact - Show how your presence made something better. This will help admission reps imagine your place on their campus. Show how you improved your community and the lives around you.

Answer these questions:

• What problem did I face/solve?
• What lesson did I learn?
• What skill did I gain?
• How did I grow/improve?
• How did I improve the organization/team/lives of others?

Tips:

• Impact is an action - use words to show this.  Rather than "Class Treasurer" - use " In my position as treasurer, I was part of a group that saved the school X thousands of dollars by identifying a new way to recycle."
• Don't overdo it. "Changed lives or having your life changed through one day of volunteering" is a stretch.
• Influence - Use strong, specific words (verbs) and to be concise.
• Be aware of any redundancy. If you have already listed a position or achievement, simply do not restate it.
• You don't need to describe the details of common activities. Rather, explain the specific role you had.
• Add a Header like "Objective" or "summary" that is an optional, but potentially usually section of a resume. This will help you showcase your knowledge, ambitions, and skills that will make you an asset to a college and/or program.
